We are a formally constituted Club, set up in 1978 and have a limited, subscription-based membership. We work closely with the Government’s national Portable Antiquities Scheme and their local Finds Liaison Officer (FLO) for the County concerned.
We have a very strict and responsible code of conduct in our searches, liaising closely with farmers who work the land, with two objects in mind: first, to record and share information about what is found and to share their value in cases where more significant artefacts turn up; second to operate a “gold standard” by which we respect the land and its crops and try to ensure that a landowner coming behind us after a dig can barely trace that we have been there. We operate group indemnity insurance up to £10 million and members attending digs must be able to prove personal affiliation (usually through the Club) with the National Council for Metal Detecting.
